MedLife - this is the name of the new industry association for medical technology, life sciences and biotechnology in Aachen since March 18, 2015. It has recently been headed by CEO Dr. Henning Steinhagen, Head of Drug Discovery and Senior Vice President of Grünenthal GmbH. Steinhagen is thus continuing the good tradition of the founding father of the idea, Dr. Franz A. Wirtz, former Managing Director of Grünenthal: Entrepreneurs and universities are jointly committed to cooperation, innovation and networks.
In order to develop the strategic realignment of MedLife e.V., the Board of Directors invited members to a workshop to share their expectations and needs. "I am delighted that the members are committed to helping shape the future direction of MedLife. The vote gives us the mandate to maintain proven services and offer new topics and services," says Dr. Henning Steinhagen, summarizing the results of the workshop. "A particular challenge for us is to attract significantly more capital for start-ups and projects to the region in future in order to be more attractive and competitive in the life sciences sector."
"An IHK Aachen event in October 2015, which will address the topic of venture capital, is already being planned," revealed Anke Schweda, Managing Director of IHK Aachen and board member of MedLife e.V.
The MedLife Board of Directors has set itself the goal of giving the industry greater visibility both nationally and internationally. To this end, the network is to be further expanded and supplemented with new expertise. The association currently has more than 80 members, including 41 life science companies and 13 research institutions.
MedLife e.V. is the merger of the two former associations LifeTecAachen-Jülich e.V. and the Aachen Competence Center for Medical Technology (AKM).
