In order to increase the competitiveness of German SMEs in the Drug research and development the BMBF is making funding available to strengthen the research and development activities.
Eligible for funding are SMEs and collaborative projects of universities, non-university research institutions and others with medical (red) biotechnology projects for drug development up to clinical phase IIa as well as clinical trials in which it is investigated whether an already approved drug can be used in a new indication for which it is not yet approved ("repurposing").
The project must be initiated and coordinated by an SME and at least 50% of the funding requested for the overall project must benefit SMEs. The aim is to develop independent products and/or services and improve the market position.
Projects on methods, technologies and procedures in medical technology and on the research and development of medical products are not funded.
The submission deadlines are April 15 and October 15 - the final deadline is April 15, 2024. Further information on funding can be found here.
