reACT - Resorbable solutions from the Aachen technology region
RUBIN (Regional Entrepreneurial Alliances for Innovation)
The RUBIN reACT alliance from the Aachen technology region has set itself the goal of transferring resorbable implant solutions from the Aachen technology region to application in the medium term in a strong entrepreneurial alliance by means of a holistic approach and a sustainable utilization concept.
True to the motto "Medtech made in Aachen", the structural change that we want to play a key role in shaping in our region begins in the center of the imperial city of Aachen and from there should literally conquer the hearts of our customers, the patients of our users, both regionally and nationally.
Our reACT alliance consists of 21 partners and, as an association, forms a representative cross-section of the Aachen technology region, particularly in the field of medical technology. Characterized by a predominantly medium-sized core, we complement the clout and dynamism of young companies with the experience of established medical technology players and the scientific expertise of regional universities and research institutions. As an alliance, we consider both patients and clinicians as well as the technology region itself and the regional labor market as our target groups.
The reACT modular system combines resorbable materials, innovative manufacturing processes and specific user knowledge synergistically for the first time in a modular system, making innovative resorbable implant solutions available to the full spectrum of surgical disciplines.
Structure in the network
Our reACT concept comprises five individual collaborative projects, known as verticals, in which we cover the most important clinical fields of application for resorbable implants as well as important cross-cutting topics such as innovation processes or specific education and training programs for medical technology from the ground up. Guided by a strong and interdisciplinary alliance management, different examples of the respective technical or methodological solution principles are created in each vertical, so that up to 19 different types of demonstrator prove the subsequent transferability into (medical) care
reACT is divided into five focus areas - the verticals:
- Vertical 1 - Next Generation Innovation
Research and development of innovation-promoting processes and alliance-related measures to conceptualize and establish the reACT innovation ecosystem - Vertical 2 - Soft Tissue Regeneration
Research into resorbable membranes to control soft tissue regeneration - Vertical 3 - Bone Repair
Research into resorbable osteostimulative implants for load-bearing, fully curative therapy of critical bone defects - Vertical 4 - Cardiovascular Intervention
Research into time-adaptive, partially resorbable vascular implants for cardiovascular care - Vertical 5 - Tech Education
Development and testing of digital, flexible and modular training and further education offers for specialized qualification in the field of medical technology.
MedLife e. V., the BioMedTech network of the Aachen technology region, will contribute its expertise to Vertical 1 and develop models for bundling the science management competencies of the alliance from science and industry. The aim is to facilitate the transfer of knowledge, create sustainability of knowledge and initiate an optimal knowledge dialog within the alliance.
This also serves to advance the development of future innovative solutions for the healthcare industry. With our core competence and the interdisciplinary networking between players from biomedicine, medical technology, healthcare, science and research, we can support the development of a model-based product development process and strengthen the innovation potential of the alliance and the MedTech region of Aachen.
